When I first picked up the DynaVap The WoodWynd, I was surprised by how light and compact it was, without feeling cheap. The body measures 109 mm, is made of Ipe wood and fits perfectly in your hand thanks to its tapered centre. The airport is located in the tapered waist of the body.
I probably don’t need to explain that the choice of high-quality materials is one of DynaVap’s main competitive advantages. Ipe, also known as Brazilian walnut or ironwood, is no ordinary wood. It is characterised by its exceptional hardness and durability, as well as its luxurious appearance — it has subtle stripes and is dark in colour, ranging from olive to reddish brown. It contains natural oils that protect it from moisture and mould.
The body is finished with stainless steel crowns on both sides. At one end, under the cap, is a Helix Tip, a gold-coloured titanium chamber, and at the other end is a titanium mouthpiece with a twisted condenser underneath.
WoodWynd is very easy to disassemble. All parts fit together perfectly, metal to metal, so you don’t need any O-rings that would wear out over time.

Solid mechanics
The WoodWynd, like all DynaVap devices, does not use any electricity. The tip is heated by a burner.
Battery-free devices have a number of advantages — how many times have you had your vaporiser run out of power while travelling, or had to postpone a session because you forgot to charge the device beforehand? Not to mention how quickly electronics fail. The mechanical DynaVap lasts for ages compared to electronic vaporisers.
Some might see the need to carry a lighter as a disadvantage. I see it this way: unlike a battery, a lighter will last for weeks, and you can rely on it even in places without a power outlet.
DynaVap devices are also supposed to be more efficient. The manufacturer promises that its vaporisers use up to 50% less material than conventional herbal vaporisers while maintaining maximum vapour quality. After a month of regular use, I actually found that I was using much less material, so in the end, you can save a lot of money with mechanical vaping.
And why do I prefer a mechanical vaporiser to a classic joint? The main advantage of vaporisers over classic smoking is that there is no combustion. So I don’t inhale unnecessary harmful substances and I don’t smell of smoke.
So how does it work?
Operating a mechanical vaporiser is different from operating a conventional electronic vaporiser, but it’s not complicated.
- First, remove the cap from the tip and fill the chamber with herbs. The chamber should be filled to the brim — if there is too little material in it, vaping may be ineffective, and if there is too much, it may overheat and burn. Put the cap back on.
- Now you need to heat the tip. You will need a burner for this, as a regular lighter is too weak. You can also use induction. Hold the tip over the flame or in the heater and rotate it for even heating. In five to ten seconds, the vaporiser will click loudly — then it is ready for use.
- Now it’s time for a puff. You can adjust the experience by covering the airflow hole.
- Another click will indicate that the tip has cooled down and needs to be reheated. That’s all you need — no display or thermometer, and no guesswork.
Experience and taste
Using the WoodWynd is very intuitive. I already have experience with DynaVap mechanical vaporisers, but even a beginner can easily handle it.
The draw is smooth and the taste is excellent. Thanks to the titanium and the absence of any plastic, the taste is clean and the flavour of the terpenes really stands out. In all the time I’ve been using it, the herbs have never burnt.
I honestly didn’t bother covering the airflow at all, as it wasn’t necessary — the WoodWynd has a narrower opening that lets in the ideal amount of air.

Thorough cleaning is sufficient approximately once a month. It is time to clean when:

- You see deposits in the tip.
First, disassemble the entire device — remove the cap and chamber, mouthpiece and condenser. All metal parts fit together perfectly; you won’t find any O-rings in Woodwynd that wear out quickly and need to be replaced. Wipe all parts and immerse them in isopropyl alcohol. After a few hours, remove the parts and let them dry thoroughly on a paper towel. Then just reassemble the device and it’s like new.

To tell the truth, DynaVap devices don’t have much competition. There are few mechanical vaporisers on the market, and DynaVap really stands out for its high-quality workmanship.
