What are vape cartridges or refills?

Vape cartridges (refills) are pre-filled with cannabis extract, can be disposable or refillable, are hand screwed onto a battery with the appropriate thread size (510) and come in sizes 0.5–⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠2 ml.

The cartridge can be attached to a vaporizer or battery, e.g. Golden Buds Battery for CBD Cartridge or Euphoria Cartridge Battery 350 mAh.

Vaping cannabis extracts is an easy, effective and unobtrusive way to inhale. There are several different types of vaporizers that can be used, but pre-filled vaporizers with a rechargeable battery are among the easiest methods. An example of such a device is the vape pen. Vape pens consist of 4 main components: the atomizer, the cartridge, the battery and the electronics.

Disposable cartridges should not be refilled, as leaking cartridges can damage the battery or vape pen. When the cartridge is empty, discard them and replace with new ones.

Refillable cartridges

The small glowing element in the cartridge of a vape pen is called the “atomizer”. It is the part of the cartridge that is responsible for heating and converting the liquid into vapour. When buying a cartridge, check what material the atomizer is made of.

The materials of the atomizer determine the voltage range that is required from a compatible battery to achieve the optimum vapour temperature.

The most commonly used materials are copper, quartz, ceramic, titanium and titanium alloys.

Vape pens with quartz coils are renowned for their strength and ability to deliver subtle flavour. Devices with a ceramic element are a bit more popular because they provide the largest yet most subtle vapour.

4 generations of oil fillings

The classic polycarbonate or plastic cartridge works best on a low voltage battery.
The glass cartridge has a similar design with a glass shell and higher quality construction. It works well in the 3.3–3.7 volt range.
The third model is revolutionary in that the wire coil is replaced with a ceramic heating element that heats the wick. The material of construction of these cartridges varies by manufacturer, with glass, ceramic, metal and stainless steel being the most commonly used. For proper operation, the recommended voltage range is 3.3–4.0 V.
The ceramic wickless cartridge contains a ceramic heating element without a spiral. A battery with a voltage of at least 3,7 V is suitable. A variable or fixed battery with a voltage of 3.7 V should be paired with the wickless ceramic cartridge.

The current trend is all-ceramic and all-glass cartridges, which separate the contents of the cartridge from any contact with metal materials, offering the cleanest vaping experience on the market. These cartridges are now the top of the industry. The ignition in these cartridges is similar and it is recommended to use 3.3–3.7V batteries.
