What are varicose veins and spider veins?

Varicose veins, or varices, are dilated veins, which most commonly appear on the lower limbs. They may be visible just beneath the skin’s surface and appear blue to purple in colour.

Spider veins are smaller dilated blood vessels that form a fine network beneath the skin.
