CBD Gummies Buying Guide UK: mg per Gummy, Spectrum Types and Sugar-Free

How do I choose CBD gummies?

Choose by milligrams per gummy (5 and 10 mg are the common steps), by extract type (isolate, broad spectrum or full spectrum) and by recipe (sugar-free, vegan pectin or gelatin). The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to keep CBD from food to about 10 mg a day, so one standard 10 mg gummy is a full day’s guideline amount.

CBD gummies are the easiest CBD format to dose because each piece is a fixed amount – but only if you know what that amount is and what kind of extract it contains. This guide covers the label maths, the difference between isolate, broad spectrum and full spectrum, the UK food rules that apply, and which of our current listings fit each purpose. For the wider checklist see what to check before buying CBD products.

How much CBD is in one gummy?

Divide the total on the jar by the number of gummies. Most jars work out at 5 or 10 mg a piece; large jars simply hold more pieces:

Per gummy Typical jar Who it suits Examples listed
5 mg 100 mg / 20 pieces Trying CBD for the first time; staying well inside the FSA guideline Mikro 100 mg CBD gummies (20 x 5 mg)
10 mg 250 mg / about 25 pieces; 200 mg / 20; 600 mg / 60 The standard daily amount in one piece Just CBD Bears 250 mg, Koi Anytime Balance 200 mg, Koi Anytime Balance 600 mg
1000 mg jars Count varies – Just CBD Calm is about 100 x 10 mg; always divide Regular users buying in bulk once a recipe suits them Just CBD Calm fruit gummies 1000 mg, Just CBD sour worms 1000 mg
Counts are approximate and as declared by the brand; check the jar.

Isolate, broad spectrum or full spectrum?

  • CBD isolate is purified CBD with the other plant compounds removed. It has no THC, which matters for the UK “exempt product” rules and for anyone who is drug-tested. Just CBD’s classic bears, for example, are made with CBD isolate.
  • Broad spectrum keeps other minor cannabinoids and terpenes but has the THC removed to non-detectable levels – the Koi Anytime Balance gummies are an example.
  • Full spectrum keeps everything, including trace THC. In the UK a consumer product must contain no more than 1 mg of any controlled cannabinoid per container to be an exempt product, so check the COA, not just the marketing.

The difference between them is explained further in full-spectrum CBD vs H4CBD and CBD is not cannabis.

Recipe details that change the choice

  • Sugar-free: Just CBD makes sugar-free worms in 250 mg and 500 mg jars for anyone counting sugar.
  • Vegan: look for pectin rather than gelatin in the ingredient list.
  • Flavour and shape: rings, bears, worms and ribbons are the same recipe in different moulds; the mg per piece can differ, so re-check the maths per jar.
  • CBD + THC jars: some jars (for example “CBD+THC” sours and peach rings) contain THC and therefore fall under controlled-drugs law – see the THC gummies buying guide instead.

The UK rules that apply to CBD gummies

  • CBD itself is not a controlled drug, but the finished product must meet the exempt-product test (no more than 1 mg of THC or other controlled cannabinoids per container).
  • CBD sweets are food. In England and Wales, CBD foods are novel foods and should be linked to a validated novel-food application; the FSA publishes a public list of such products that you can check before buying.
  • The FSA’s precautionary advice (October 2023) is that healthy adults limit CBD from food to 10 mg a day, and it does not recommend CBD for under-18s, people taking medication, or anyone pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive.
  • We sell to adults 18+ only. Cannabinoid content is as declared by the brand; a Certificate of Analysis can be requested before you order.

How to compare prices

Work out pence per milligram: a 250 mg jar at around £12 is roughly 5p per mg; a 1000 mg jar at about £30 is 3p per mg; the 60-piece Koi jar at about £60 is 10p per mg but is broad spectrum with a stated per-piece amount. Bigger jars are cheaper per milligram, but only buy in bulk once you know a recipe agrees with you – gummies keep for months in a cool, dark cupboard, not forever.

Quick answers

How many CBD gummies should I eat a day?

The FSA advises healthy adults to stay around 10 mg of CBD a day from food – one standard 10 mg gummy, or two 5 mg pieces.

Will CBD gummies make me feel high?

No. CBD is not intoxicating. Only products that also contain THC or other psychoactive cannabinoids can do that, and those are covered by different rules.

Do CBD gummies show up on a drug test?

Isolate and broad-spectrum products should contain no detectable THC. Full-spectrum products contain trace THC; check the COA if this matters to you.

What is the difference between CBD gummies and hemp gummies?

‘Hemp gummies’ sometimes contain hemp seed oil with no CBD at all. Look for a stated CBD amount in milligrams.

Can I take CBD gummies with medication?

The FSA does not recommend CBD for people taking any medication unless under medical direction – ask your GP or pharmacist first.
